ANA M. PÉREZ GUTIÉRREZ

I graduated in Biotechnology from the University of Pablo de Olavide (Seville) in 2013. Later, I completed the MSc in Biomedicine at the University of Granada (2013-2014), which allowed me to join, as a student,  the Genomics Unit of the Centre for Genomics and Oncological Research (GENYO) in Granada. I trained as a specialist technician in Genomics and continued in the Unit until August 2018, when I started to specialize in genomic data analysis. I studied the MSc in Bioinformatics and Biostatistics from the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (2018-2019). From February to December 2020, I developed my skills as a bioinformatician at the Computational Medicine Platform of the Progress and Health Foundation (FPS) in Seville.

In January 2020, I began a Predoctoral Contract for Research Training (PFIS) from the Health Institute of Carlos III (ISCIII) in the Bioenvironmental Psychiatry group at the Biomedical Research Institute of Granada (ibs.GRANADA). During my years as a predoctoral researcher, I focused on psychiatric genetics, specifically studying the shared genetic factors between depression and obesity. Also, I completed a research stay at the Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics (MEB) from The Karolinska Institutet from April 2022 until July 2022. Finally, I obtained my Ph.D. after defending my Thesis titled: "Depression and Obesity: Exploring their Genetic and Functional Profile." The main results were published in prestigious journals in the field of psychiatry.

After exploring the field of psychiatric genetics, I decided to continue my research career in this area. In June 2024, I joined the Psychiatric Genetics group at the Health Research Institute of Santiago de Compostela (IDIS) as a postdoctoral researcher to work on the analysis of genomic data related to genetic susceptibility to addictions or related phenotypes. The project is part of a collaborative network, RIAPAd (Red de Investigación en Atención Primaria en Adicciones), funded by the ISCIII, which aims to study substance addictions from different perspectives.
