LAILA AL-SOUFI

I graduate in Biology from the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC) in 2018. During my studies, I had the opportunity to collaborate in the Department of Genetics, where I discovered my vocation. So I decided to study the master´s degree in Genomics and Genetics from the University of Santiago de Compostela and the University of Vigo and, at the end of 2018, I joined the research group of Psychiatric Genetics, doing my Master´s Final Project “Genetic analysis of the association between tobacco and schizophrenia”.

Since September of 2019, I´m working at the group as a PhD student. My Thesis project “A genomic approach to the association between tobacco, alcohol and schizophrenia” consists in the analysis of the genetic susceptibility to general psychopathology in relation to tobacco use, alcoholism and schizophrenia by the estimation of polygenic risk scores. The aim of this project is to find the reason of the association between tobacco use and schizophrenia by a genomic approach.
